ABU DHABI // The criminal court yesterday ordered the arrest of a police witness who failed to appear at a number of hearings in a drug-related case.
The anti-narcotics agent's no-shows meant the trial of three Filipino men and one woman accused of dealing in methamphetamines had to be adjourned numerous times.
"Do you insist on him attending and testifying?" Chief Justice Sayed Abdul Baseer, head of the court, asked the lawyer defending the four.
"Yes I do, and I was prepared to question him today," replied Ahmad Al Othali. "My clients are harmed by the constant adjournment of the case," he added.
The court ordered public prosecution to arrest the anti-narcotics officer and adjourned the case until September 16.
