was sentenced today in absentia to three months in prison for stealing Dh6,200 worth of coupons.

EH, 31, did not appear at the hearing in the Dubai Criminal Court of First Instance this morning.

Prosecutors charged him with taking Dh6,200 in coupons, which are assigned a monetary value and are usually distributed to customers. He then tried to cash them in at the finance department at his workplace in Mirdiff, records said.

On August 7, records said, the suspect took 25 coupons worth Dh50 each from a Filipino employee working under him. He also stole 15 coupons, each one worth Dh200, and other coupons whose number and value were not given in records.

Records noted that the theft was discovered after the Filipino cashier told a another employee the suspect had forced him to give up the coupons.

A different employee at the finance department, who knew it was not standard procedure to cash the coupons, informed the management, who called the police.
