Coronavirus: UAE sends medical aid to Sudan to help curb the spread

The UAE has sent 11 metric tonnes of medical supplies to Sudan to help the country’s fight against the Covid-19 spread.

The aid will help about 11,000 medical professionals who are working around the clock in the Northeast African nation.

As of May 29, Sudan had 4,346 registered cases, 749 recoveries and 195 deaths.

"The UAE stands with Sudan as it confronts one of the most pressing global challenges to public health and security,” said Hamad Mohammed Humaid Al Jneibi, UAE’s ambassador to Sudan.

“With today’s delivery of aid, it is our concrete aim that the frontline healthcare workers of Sudan will be better equipped to fight the pandemic and overcome this crisis."

On April 22, the UAE sent an aid plane carrying seven metric tonnes of medical supplies to Sudan, benefiting approximately 7,000 medical professionals.

Overall, the UAE has provided more than 658 metric tonnes of aid to 58 countries in need during the times of the pandemic. This has supported more than 668 healthcare workers in the process.
