Cook who kissed woman and pulled her trousers down in lift is deported

Egyptian is also handed suspended prison term after incident with Mexican woman.

DUBAI // An Egyptian cook who kissed a Mexican woman on the lips after pretending he wanted to take a selfie with her was handed a suspended six-month sentence.

Dubai Criminal Court heard that on May 29, the 26-year-old Mexican got into the lift in her building at about 11.40pm, heading to her apartment.

“A man in jeans and a t-shirt got into the lift and initiated a conversation then stood very close to me, pretending he wanted to take a selfie,” said the woman.

She added that as she tried to rush out of the lift, the man kissed her on the lips more than five times before he pulled her trousers down and touched her.

The woman suffered bruises as she tried to escape the suspect’s grip.

The 20-year-old cook denied a sexual assault charge in court in August and told judges that the woman dropped charges against him.

He will not spend any time in jail but he is to be deported from the country immediately.
