Confusion over whether body in Oman belongs to missing Emirati

DUBAI // The body of a young man found in a desert area of Oman could not be identified last night after police intially said they believed it to be that of a 21-year-old Emirati missing since last month.

Police had said early Monday that the body found near the UAE border was that of Nasser Ali Nasser, a diabetic, who left his family home in Rashidiya on October 27 to go on a road trip. Brig Khalil Al Mansouri, director of Dubai CID, later said police were not confident that the body found was his.

“Most probably the body is not his so the search for him is still ongoing,” he said.

The cause of death had not been established.

Police continued to question three men last night who had been travelling with Mr Nasser. They are suspected of being “behind his disappearance or death”.

The men, who accompanied Mr Nasser on a road trip to the desert in an emirate neighbouring Dubai, are the last people to have seen him.

Police did not disclose which emirate they visited but Col Mohammed Nasser, deputy head of CID for police station affairs, said the men were “under the influence of alcohol” during the trip.

It was previously believed Mr Nasser disappeared on October 28, but officers revised the date, saying he had been missing for a day before his father reported him gone.
