Focal Point: Well rounded

Depth of field in photography is the space between the nearest and the farthest objects. This photo of a child at the recent Mother of the Nation Festival by staff photographer Mona Al Marzooqi demonstrates this concept. She says of the photo: “From the side, you’ll see layers of plain white panels with space in between each one and the same-sized circle cut into each one. But when you look into it, you see an elongated depth, with the circles descending in size. The child playing through the circles completes the perspective of depth and is the main element in shaping the composition, by giving it scale and a focal point.”
