DUBAI // A cleaner who filmed people while they were in their office bathroom has been charged with sexual assault.
Last March, M O, 29, from Pakistan, hid his Nokia mobile phone, with the camera switched on, inside his former company’s unisex toilets, prosecutors told Dubai Criminal Court.
The phone was discovered shortly afterwards by an engineer at the design company.
A M, 25, from Syria, told the court he was using the toilet when he noticed something sticking out of a tissue box under the sink opposite him. After finding the phone, which was still recording, he notified his superior. Further investigation led them to M O.
At a hearing last month, M O confessed to hiding a camera in the staff toilet.
During the hearing on Sunday, he also confessed to the sexual assault charge, saying he wanted to film the company’s Filipina secretary as she used the bathroom.
The defendant was sentenced to six months in jail and will be deported after completing his sentence.

Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.
Popular Vote Tally
The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
