Cleaner charged over theft of FlyDubai passenger’s sunglasses

Nepalese worker admits to stealing glasses after appearing very nervous to security as he finished his shift.

DUBAI // A 20-year-old airport worker is accused of stealing a pair of sunglasses from a passenger’s seat, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

Prosecutors said that on August 23 the Nepalese defendant was cleaning a FlyDubai aircraft and he stole the sunglasses, which had been mistakenly left behind by a passenger.

He was caught as he was leaving the airport after his shift was over at 9.30am.

“He looked very tense and wouldn’t empty his pockets at first but then did so and said he took them from the airplane,” said an Emirati policeman, 29.

The man was arrested and referred to a police station. He confessed to the charge in court and awaits a verdict on November 17.
