DUBAI // The sale of cigarettes will be banned for 24 hours today at a number of shops and petrol station stores across the emirate to mark World No Tobacco Day. The ban will be in effect until midnight tonight.
More than 60 shops, hypermarkets and supermarkets - including all branches of Carrefour, Spinneys, Choitrams and Lulu Hypermarket - have confirmed they will not be selling cigarettes.
Stores at 138 petrol stations - including Emarat, Eppco and Enoc - will also not sell cigarettes, according to Dubai Municipality.
All restaurants and cafes in Dubai are also requested to co-operate with the municipality and participate in the campaign by stopping the sale of shisha for a period of 12 hours.
The municipality will place stickers on every shisha cafe to remind people of the legal age limit of 18.

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican.
