Children need 'extra education'

Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Crown Prince of Ajman, has stressed the importance of activities outside of the school curriculum.

Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, the Crown Prince of Ajman, has stressed the importance of extra-curricular activities outside of school for the development of creativity in the young, during a tour of schools and government sites in the Mazira region. "Education outside the school is no less important than education inside the school," said Sheikh Ammar during his visit to one of the major schools in Mazira, the Mazira Elementary and Secondary school for girls.

Sheikh Ammar also called on the faculty and the students to co-operate "to produce a generation of girls that are good at science and that will excel in scientific achievements and raise high the UAE banner in all its educational sectors". One of the projects hailed by Sheikh Ammar as a great success was the "spring of life" project in the school's restaurant that provides daily, healthy breakfasts for its students because of the large number of students coming to school without having eaten.

This project was awarded the Sharjah Prize for Excellence. Sheikh Ammar then visited the Mazira government compound, a project costing Dh12 million that is expected to be completed and commence providing services in early 2010. He inspected the progress of work and visited the future offices of the federal government departments as well as the offices of local specialised communities in the emirate.

The compound will include rooms for training, rehabilitation, lectures and symposium as well as several offices for some of the major private companies. The aim of the project is to provide common services to the residents of Mazira and Masfout areas of Ajman and will be overseen by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council along with Ajman Municipality and Planning Department.
