Carpenter denies trying to kill boss using a large stick

DUBAI // A 26-year-old carpenter denied trying to kill his boss by hitting him with a large wooden stick on the head, Dubai Criminal Court heard on Wednesday.

The Pakistani accused told judges that it was an equal fight. “We were both hitting each other and when I hit him I didn’t mean or intend to kill him,” he said.

The incident happened at 11pm on March 6 at their workshop in Deira.

“I was closing down my shop when I heard screams coming for the next shop. I went over and saw the victim on the floor bleeding heavily from the head and I saw his attacker standing nearby,” said an Afghan man, 26.

He said he called police and an ambulance took the man to hospital.

The boss, whose age and nationality were not given, remained in hospital for more than two months and underwent two operations after he was found to be suffering from a skull fracture and had a tumour that had to be removed.

The defendant was charged with attempted murder, which he denied.

The next hearing is on December 18.
