DUBAI // What could have been a major disaster was averted by firefighters this afternoon after a speeding car lost control and smashed into another vehicle that was being filled with petrol.
Two fire engines rushed to the Enoc petrol station on Emirates Road near the Dragon Mart mall and the fire was quickly extinguished. "The fire affected two cars but no one was injured in the incident," said a Civil Defence spokesman. "Fortunately it was a small fire that caused some minor damage to the pump and the ceiling."
A spokesperson for Enoc said no one was injured and that the station will remain closed until repairs are carried out.
"The station's automatic shut-off system turned off fuel supply instantly," the spokesperson said. "The service and sales staff at the site took all emergency measures to manage the incident and undertook all mandatory evacuation procedures. A full investigation is being undertaken by the authorities."
