Cable thieves rape security guard, Dubai court hears

DUBAI // A security guard told a court on Monday that he had been raped by one of three men who raided a construction site to steal electric cables worth Dh13,830.

Indian security guard M A told prosecutors that two hooded men covered his head with a blanket and the other one raped him.

Prosecutors said that Pakistanis M M A, 40, Z R, 30, S A A, 28, and two unidentified people - who were not charged - attacked the guard in January at 2am and locked him in a bedroom as the cables were stolen.

“They were all hooded and wearing Pakistani clothes,” said the guard. “Two of them stayed with me in my room to make sure I didn’t inform the police. A hooded man raped me and then one of them stole my mobile phone.”

The guard stayed in the room until he went to pray at dawn and only then did he call his superior and police.

At Dubai Criminal Court on Monday, the three defendants pleaded not guilty to robbery. However, prosecutors did not charge the defendants with rape and no explanation was given. A verdict is expected on June 13.
