Cabbie jailed by Dubai court for molesting passenger

DUBAI // A taxi driver who confessed to molesting a 21-year-old student after driving her to a secluded area has been sentenced to three months in jail.

Dubai Criminal Court prosecutors said that on January 15 last year Sudanese A A hailed a cab driven by Pakistani J K, 47, and told him to take her to Sharjah.

“I stopped the taxi near the metro station in Al Garhoud and once we were on the way he started flirting with me, but I didn’t respond. Then I noticed that he took a different route,” the victim said.

She told prosecutors that J K drove to an area in Umm Ramool where he stopped the car and touched her breast.

“He had his private parts showing and he was sexually aroused. I got out of the taxi and started screaming,” said A A, who reported the incident to police.

Police officer M A told prosecutors J K had taken A A to a dimly lit industrial area.

J K will be deported after completing his sentence.
