Brothel-owners who fatally stabbed a man in Dubai have jail sentences increased

Two brothel-owners who stabbed a man to death have had their sentences doubled by Dubai Court of Appeal.

In March this year the Vietnamese men, both aged 32, were convicted of murder and facilitating prostitution by Dubai Criminal Court and sentenced to three years in prison each.

One of the men must now serve six years in prison and the other has had his sentence increased to seven years in jail.

Both will be deported after the completion of their terms.
On July 6 last year police were dispatched to the Moroccan Cluster of International City after receiving a report about a fight.
Police found the body of a Pakistani man near the emergency exit and arrested three Pakistani men, one of whom had been stabbed in the leg.
 An Emirati police officer said the three men, aged between 20 and 28, told him they got into a fight with the defendants after they assaulted their friend.
"They said that the Vietnamese men got out of a brothel armed with knives and they engaged in a fight in which they assaulted two of them physically and then the two attacked the deceased and stabbed him repeatedly," the 30-year-old officer said.
Police identified the Vietnamese men through CCTV footage and arrested them the next day in Al Mutainah.
The pair admitted to stabbing the man to death and injuring another in the leg, police said.
"They said that they were assaulted first by the Pakistani men," the policeman said.
The three Pakistanis were charged and convicted of physically assaulting the two brothel-owners and were each sentenced to two months in jail and fined Dh1,000 each, both were overturned by the appeals court.
