SHARJAH // The body of a newborn baby boy was found on a beach on Tuesday.
A group of visitors found the boy, who was wrapped in a cloth, on Al Hira Beach, Al Ittihad, the Arabic-language sister newspaper of The National reported. It is believed the child died before he was abandoned, police said.
The body is being examined at Sharjah Police forensics laboratory to determine the cause of death.
An investigation into the death of the baby, who has not been identified, is ongoing.
In March 2013, the body of a newborn boy was found in a bin in Al Dhaid. At the time, police said they believed the child had been born illegally before being dumped by his parents.
The previous year, a newborn survived being thrown down from the ninth-floor rubbish chute of a building.
