Biker killed in crash with lorry in RAK

An Emirati motorbike rider was killed after a crash with a lorry performing a U-turn in Ras Al Khaimah.

The 24-year-old, identified as Ahmad Sultan, died instantly after suffering severe injuries in the road smash, police in the emirate said.

RAK Police said the 47-year-old lorry driver took a U-turn on the Al Rams-Shamal intersection without ensuring the road was clear of other traffic.

Lieutenant colonel Ayman Al-Obad, head of Al Rams police station, said emergency services were alerted to the incident on Al Rams Street at about 1.40pm on Wednesday.

“The motorbike collided with the pick-up lorry and the rider died instantly due to the severity on the crash,” said Lt Col Al-Obad.

A funeral for the young rider was held after Al Fajer prayers at Al Sabah mosque in Ras Al Khaimah.

Lt Col Al-Obad urged motorists to take caution when changing lanes or taking a U-turn and not enter a road unless it was empty of cars.
