Big Heart Foundation donates Dh400,000 to help Gazan orphans through winter

SHARJAH // The Big Heart Foundation has donated Dh400,000 to support children in the Gaza Strip.

The charity, in partnership with Palestine’s largest non-profit organisation Taawon, has bought clothes for 2,200 paternal orphans and their mothers who face winter without adequate electricity or heating. Temperatures can fall to between 5°C and 10°C at night.

Dr Tafeeda Jarbawi, director general of Taawon, praised the humanitarian role played by the Sharjah charity.

“Through such relief campaigns, we aim to ease the suffering of orphans living under harsh conditions in Palestine and ensure they can live a dignified life,” Dr Jarbawi said.

“Helping the underprivileged is one of the most socially relevant goals that individuals and society can do, and this has particular value when it is done with the sole desire of making people happy and alleviating their hardships.”

The Big Heart Foundation was launched in June 2015 by Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi to coincide with World Refugee Day. The move was aimed at redoubling efforts to help refugees and people in need worldwide, with the foundation adding to the UAE’s long list of humanitarian projects in Palestine and around the world.

At the start of March, humanitarian aid was distributed to more than 1,000 families at Ein Al Hilweh refugee camp, by the UAE Embassy in Lebanon.

Almost 5,000 people benefited from winter clothing, shoes, woollen blankets and dates provided by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation.

In January, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai, also approved the expansion of International Humanitarian City in Dubai.

Electoral College Victory

Trump has so far secured 295 Electoral College votes, according to the Associated Press, exceeding the 270 needed to win. Only Nevada and Arizona remain to be called, and both swing states are leaning Republican. Trump swept all five remaining swing states, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, sealing his path to victory and giving him a strong mandate.

Popular Vote Tally

The count is ongoing, but Trump currently leads with nearly 51 per cent of the popular vote to Harris’s 47.6 per cent. Trump has over 72.2 million votes, while Harris trails with approximately 67.4 million.
