The Attorney General of Abu Dhabi has issued a decision banning the UAE media from circulating and commenting on the case of the Asian pupil who died on a school bus on Tuesday.
Ali Al Balushi said the decision to ban all forms of print, audio-visual and online media from commenting on the case, whether they are parties to the case or third parties, comes from the office of the public prosecutor in Abu Dhabi.
In a statement released last night, an official at the public prosecutor’s officer said misinformation had been circulated about the case during the past two days, at times from sources deemed party to the case.
This has caused unwarranted confusion among students and their parents, the official said, adding that the case affects the public order and can hurt the feelings of members of the public, considering that the victim was a three-year-old girl.
The source said that the public prosecution in Abu Dhabi respects freedom of the press and the public’s right to information. But at the same time it is keen to enforce the law by ensuring nothing affects the proceedings of the case or disturbs order.
