Lt General Hamad Al Rumaithi, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, on Saturday, inspected units participating in the operation for the liberation of Hodeidah in Yemen.
The UAE is part of a Saudi-led coalition supporting the internationally recognised government of president Adrabu Mansur Hadi, which is fighting a civil war against Iran-backed Houthi rebels.
On Saturday, Yemeni government forces cut supply lines to the Houthi occupied Red Sea port of Hodeidah after the rebels sparked fighting as their delegation delayed peace talks in Geneva when they failed to attend.
At operational command centres, and accompanied by a group of senior army officers, Lt General Al Rumaithi was briefed on the progress of the battle to liberate the Governorate of Hodeidah.
He also conveyed the appreciation of the UAE leadership for the troops' continuing efforts to help the Yemeni people, Wam reported.
He praised "the high morale of the troops and their steady determination and persistence to continue defending the rights of the oppressed no matter what sacrifices and efforts were needed for that".
