ABU DHABI // Abu Dhabi cultural organisers have announced the dates for Al Dhafra Festival, to be held in December.
The festival will be held from December 7 to 30 in Madinat Zayed in the Western Region, the Cultural Programmes and Heritage Festivals Committee Abu Dhabi has said.
The event is organised under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
The festival is a major regional and international event and is inspired by the country’s authentic Bedouin spirit, organisers say. It features as many as 15 heritage activities and competitions with a total prize value of more than Dh50 million.
The main events include competitions for camel beauty, camel milking, falcons, photography, dates, sour milk and sheep beauty. There will also be a horse race, a saluki race, a market and a children’s village.
“Over the years, the festival has contributed to the promotion of [the Western Region] on the map of international tourism,” said Faris Al Mazrouei, chairman of the committee.
The festival is in its ninth edition.
