DUBAI // Commuters were left at a standstill after two separate accidents caused bumper-to-bumper traffic on Sheikh Zayed Road on Sunday. One of the accidents occurred on the exit ramp from D57 onto Sheikh Zayed Road near UAE Exchange Metro Station towards Abu Dhabi. The other incident took place near Barsha Heights with heavy congestion also felt on Hessa Street from the Al Khail Road intersection up to Sheikh Zayed Road, reported @TrafficDXB. A fire engulfed a bus and a car after a collision near the Internet City metro station. “The fire was caused because of an accident between a bus and a saloon. The passengers were removed and there were no casualties,” a civil defence spokesman said. Motorists also reported a standstill of traffic near Al Barsha near the Jebel Ali race course. An accident on Al Rebat Street before the intersection at Nadd Al Hamar Road, towards Deira, caused tailbacks up to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. Traffic snarls also caused congestion at International City from the Al Manama Street exit Another incident before the Airport Road intersection on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road also further worsened conditions for commuters in Dubai. In Abu Dhabi, an accident on Airport Road before the bridges caused delays for motorists. An accident was also reported near Ghantoot causing tailbacks on Sheikh Zayed Road for Abu Dhabi-bound traffic. And flooding on Sheikh Zayed Street near Maqta Bridge blocked off the left lane, causing a bottleneck. No injuries were reported. newsdesk@thenational.ae
