Abu Dhabi’s Ahalia Hospital evacuated after losing power

A hospital in Abu Dhabi city centre was evacuated last night when it lost power after water leaked into the building.

Patients were moved from Ahalia Hospital on Hamdan Street to the hospital’s branch in Mussaffah in a fleet of seven ambulances.

Some were walked up a ramp into an ambulance bus parked outside the hospital.

The hospital has two auxiliary generators, but they also appear to have failed.

The hospital lost its mains power at about 9.45pm when water leaked from maintenance work across the street, said Maj Bahyan Al Ameri of Abu Dhabi Community Police.

The patients had all been moved by 11.30pm.

Power was expected to be restored on Tuesday.
