Abu Dhabi University are investing Dh300 million in to a new 28,000 square metre campus in Al Ain.
The new campus will replace the university’s current premises in the city and is part of its contribution to the National Strategy for Higher Education 2030.
Scheduled for completion on 1 September, 2019, the first phase will comprise of 70 classrooms and laboratories, as well as 137 faculty and administration offices.
The campus will also have a gym, clinic, food court, library, and prayer room on every floor.
The first phase of the new premises will accommodate 2,500 students, while upon completion of phase two, the total capacity will increase to 5,000.
Ali Saeed bin Harmal Al Dhaheri, chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s board of directors, said: "Today’s milestone announcement reinforces ADU’s status as a world-class national academic institution. The new campus aims to provide a modern holistic educational environment and meet the growing student demand at a time when the university has earned several international accolades, most notably third place in Quacquarelli Symonds’ QS World University Rankings 2019 for International Faculty Ratio."
The construction of the Al Ain campus comes in response to a directive by Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed, the Ruler's representative in Al Dhafra and chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, and also chairman of ADU’s Board of Regents, to expand the university’s offerings.
Abu Dhabi University is ranked between 701-750 in the QS World University Ranking published last month, whereas last year, it was placed between 751-800 of the top universities in the world.
QS World University Rankings is an independent evaluation of global university performance. Its latest tables rank the top 1,011 universities in the world. The criteria for ranking includes academic reputation, staff to student ratio, citations for faculty, employer reputation, number of international students and members of staff.
