ABU DHABI // Over 100 kilograms of illegal cosmetic items have been seized from stalls at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec) by municipality inspectors.
The seized items included banned cosmetics, oils used for hair care, diet pills, and therapeutic herbal blends - none of which had been approved for sale by local authorities. In all, 727 packages weighing 101kg were confiscated.
Khalifa Al Rumaithi, director of public health at Abu Dhabi Municipality, said the inspectors worked in co-ordination with Adnec management to carry out the inspection and ensure the outlets did not breach public health and cleanliness standards.
He said inspectors also looked for products with packaging that did not conform with local norms and ethics. Products approved for sale in Abu Dhabi should have a label showing the country of origin, production date and ingredients in Arabic or English.
