Abu Dhabi Police warn drivers against littering

Littering from vehicles on main roads is forbidden and drivers will be punished by a fine and black points.

Col Jamal Al Ameri, head of public relations at the traffic and patrols directorate of Abu Dhabi Police, said federal traffic law gives great importance to maintaining a sustainable environment and the clean appearance of the city. Fines are Dh500 and drivers can be given four black points, regardless of who in the car does the actual littering.

More than 400 fines were issued for littering in Abu Dhabi last year. In the past four months, 136 were issued.

Traffic patrols will stop any driver who litters from his vehicle, whether it is cigarettes, food, papers or spitting.
