Abu Dhabi court sentences man to two years in jail after police car chase

ABU DHABI // Al Dhafrah Criminal Court sentenced a GCC national to two years and four months in prison and a fine of Dh10,500 for driving dangerously and against traffic while being chased by police.

The man was charged with endangering lives, driving without a license plate, driving against traffic and disobeying the orders of traffic officers when he was asked to stop.

Al Ittihad, the Arabic language sister newspaper of The National, reported the man was driving a vehicle without licence plates when he deliberately rammed four vehicles and fled the scene of the accident. His car was spotted by police being driven recklessly, dangerously and against traffic. He jumped a red light at high speed and tried to ram the police vehicle when officers tried to arrest him.

Abu Dhabi’s Public Prosecution transferred the accused to the Al Dhafrah Criminal Court, asking for severe penalties.
