ABU DHABI // A man who sexually assaulted a psychologically-disturbed woman had his sentence reduced from five to two years in prison by an appeals court on Thursday.
The Emirati defendant met the Iraqi victim on social media network. After chatting online for a fortnight, he started pestering her to meet him.
At first she refused, but she eventually agreed to meet him.
During the first meeting nothing happened between them, which encouraged her to meet him again.
However, he sexually assaulted her during their second date.
She told her mother and sister about the incident and they reported it to police.
The criminal court found the defendant guilty after forensics tests proved he had abused her.
