Abu Dhabi competition gives poets the chance to win Dh50,000

ABU DHABI // Budding Nabati poets are being invited to submit works about birds and hunting to a Poetry Academy battle and land the chance to win Dh50,000.

The competition, open to people over the age of 45, is part of the events of the 13th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition – organised by the Emirates Falconers’ Club from September 9 to 12.

The academy, an affiliate of the Cultural Programme and Heritage Festivals Committee – Abu Dhabi, said the subject matter of the poetry was chosen to link two traditional Emirati arts – Nabati Poetry and falconry.

There has been an increase in falconry poems in recent years and the organisers were keen to encourage that as the sport is considered one of the most important pillars of heritage in the region.

Poems, of not less than 15 verses, should not exceed 20 lines or have been the winning prose in any other competitions.

Entrants have to record their poems in high-quality audio.

There will be 10 winners chosen with the prize purse ranging from Dh50,000 for first place to Dh5,000 for 10th place.

Participants have until August 30 to submit their poem to howaidah.dhanhani@tcaabudhabi.ae.
