ABU DHABI // A company that continued to use outdoor advertising space three years after its contract ended must pay Dh 1.4 million in overdue rent, the Appeal Court has ruled.

The company leased the 10 hoardings from the Abu Dhabi Government on the E11 Dubai to Abu Dhabi highway for three years.

When the contract finished in 2011, it did not remove the posters and left its adverts up without paying.

A Government official said he had warned the company numerous times to settle its account.

Each board cost Dh45,000 per year to rent. The company owed three years rent on 10 of them, plus the cost of removal, which amounted to Dh1.4 million.

In January, the Court of First Instance ruled that the company must pay up and remove the posters.

The company’s appeal was turned down by the Appeal Court on Tuesday.
