RAS AL KHAIMAH // Police arrested and charged five men with arson for allegedly burning vehicles, caravans and bins in the Sha'am area. The men were arrested after allegedly attempting to set fire to a car. All five had been under surveillance since the police received complaints about a spate of arsons last month. All five ran away, but police later picked up two of the men. Their alleged confessions led to the other three arrests.

Police said the men's statements had implicated them in the burning of six vehicles, seven bins and two caravans. The suspects were alleged to have started the fires using tissues and an accelerant that can be purchased at grocery stores. The suspects, aged 18 to 27, are unemployed and none of them has a criminal record, police said. They added that the men had told officers that they enjoyed the destructive behaviour and that it was a way of relieving boredom.
