245 Dubai salons fined for health and safety violations

DUBAI // Salons and hairdressers in the emirate have accrued fines totalling Dh182,500 through 245 health and safety violations.

The health monitoring section of the Public Health and Safety Department at Dubai Municipality said the violations were found during inspections last month on both gents and ladies salons.

“A number of salons have been inspected and 206 ladies salons were issued fines totalling Dh101,400, along with 310 warnings, resulting from 677 visits,” Hafid Guloom, the head of the health monitoring section, said.

“Some salons were using unauthorised products in addition to unhealthy herbs and oils.

“A team of female inspectors undertook the inspection of ladies salons to check the licence validity, requirements of staff and facilities such as strict adherence to female staff and single-door entrance, in addition to health requirements and validity of devices used as well as the compliance with promotional campaigns and prices.”

He added that the fines for gents salons amounted to Dh77,100, with 104 warnings issued from 197 inspections.

“The main violations were noncompliance with scientific method of hair-waste disposal, in addition to bad practices in hand wash, drying and sanitising equipments,” Mr Guloom said.

Follow-up inspections will be conducted to ensure all the issues have been corrected, Mr Guloom added.

He pointed out that the section has 40 inspectors qualified in different areas of public health and their goal is to ensure the protection of the community.
