Customs officials have seized almost 23,000 bottles of alcohol that were being smuggled into Saudi Arabia across the Al Ghuwaifat border in the Western Region.

They were found hidden in boxes of juice in the lorry, which was being driven by a 45-year-old from an Arab country.

Mohammed Al Hameli, acting director general of the Abu Dhabi General Administration of Customs, said officers at the Al Ghuwaifat border with Saudi Arabia were constantly foiling smuggling attempts into and out of the UAE, and praised inspectors for their continuing efforts.
