Ras Al Khaimah Police issued more than 2,000 traffic fines in two weeks after launching a traffic safety campaign in January. The force said the first two weeks of its scheme, which runs until the end of the month, saw 2,245 fines being issued against motorists for flouting traffic laws. “It's imperative that we implement the strategy of the country’s ministry of interior that aims to boost road safety, bring down the number of accidents and reduce injuries and fatalities,” said Maj Gen Ali Al Nuaimi, commander-in-chief of Ras Al Khaimah Police. He urged motorists to follow traffic rules as the campaign continues to monitor the emirate’s roads. “We will not tolerate any law breaking drivers,” said Lt Col Salim Bu Ruqaibah, head of RAK traffic police. “During the first two weeks of the traffic campaign, 1,185 fines were issued against cars and 1,060 against motor bikes, bicycles and e-scooters.” Extra patrols have been deployed across the emirate to detect violations and raise awareness of the UAE’s traffic strategy. The force said it will launch regular inspections and awareness campaigns to make sure drivers adhere to traffic laws.
