Gold traders in Dubai will have to ensure their measurement and weight instruments meet accuracy standards. Dubai municipality recently announced it would begin monitoring the accuracy of instruments used to quantify gold.
The department, along with the Dubai Central Laboratory and the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology, will check the measurements and issue verification certificates in an attempt to ensure consumers get what they pay for.
Also beginning this year, the municipality will slap fines of up to Dh2,000 on food businesses that do not have a trained individual to oversee food safety.
A new public park, Port Saeed Plaza, is expected to open in Deira's Port Saeed area in March. The 25,000-square-metre park will include shaded walking tracks.
The authority will hold its seventh Dubai International Food Safety Conference in February to discuss international safety trends.
