10 years for man with liquid-cocaine soaked clothes in Dubai

A man was jailed for 10 years after being convicted of trying to smuggle cocaine through Dubai to Syria.

DUBAI // A trader who soaked his clothes in liquid cocaine was sentenced to ten years in prison, a Dubai court said.

MY, a 28-year-old Lebanese, was stopped at Dubai International Airport on June 5 when a policeman noticed a strange smell emanating from one of his bags.

Emirati policeman, ND, searched his bags as they were suspiciously heavy, weighing about 30 kilograms. Tests done on them showed they had been soaked in liquid cocaine.

When interrogated, the man told officers he was paid US$5,000 to take the bag to Syria.

He was sentenced to ten years in jail and fined Dh200,000 and will be deported after completing his sentence.
