The National's Matt Smith looks back at five memorable moments from Wimbledon's past... 1 The all-time epic John Isner and Nicolas Mahut served up a truly unrepeatable game of tennis in 2010. The clash started on a Tuesday and finished on a Thursday after 11 hours and five minutes of action, with the American Isner finally emerging an exhausted victor 6-4, 4,6, 6-7, 7-6, 70-68. The match produced 215 aces, 490 winners and 31 double faults. 2 Cashing in Pat Cash etched himself in Wimbledon folklore after his unlikely triumph at SW19 in 1987. The Australian, having already beaten Mats Wilander in the quarter-finals and Jimmy Connors in the semi-finals, defeated the World No 1 Ivan Lendl in the final and then climbed into the stands at Centre Court to celebrate with his family, girlfriend, and coach, Ian Barclay. 3 Greatest on grass Martina Navratilova seemed to have been around forever when she reached her last Wimbledon final in 1990. From 1982 to 1990, she reached the Wimbledon final nine consecutive times and the 33 year old defeated Zina Garrison 6-4, 6-1 to claim a record-breaking ninth Wimbledon singles crown. 4 On the up Now regarded as one of the best, Andre Agassi made his name across the tennis world in 1992, when he won in London. In a thrilling five-set encounter, he defeated Goran Ivanisevic in the final, having already seen off former Wimbledon champions, Boris Becker and John McEnroe. 5 Singin' in the rain It is unlikely to happen again, now there is a retractable roof on Centre Court, but Sir Cliff Richard made front and back pages around the world when he entertained the crowds during one of Wimbledon's infamous rain delays, belting out - among other hits - the song made famous by Gene Kelly.
