England defender Faye White insists Germany hold no fear for her team ahead of today's European Championship final. Goals from Kelly Smith and substitute Jill Scott, who scored the headed winner four minutes from the end of extra-time, helped England's women beat Holland 2-1 on Sunday in their semi-final in Tampere. They will now contest a European Championship final for the first time in 25 years in Helsinki and White is relishing the prospect.
The 31-year-old Arsenal captain told www.thefa.com: "This will be the biggest game of our careers and we cannot wait to get going. We have to focus on the job in hand. Germany are a great side and they are looking for their fifth European title in a row, so it won't be easy. "We respect them but we definitely do not fear them. We have got better as the tournament has progressed and we hope to keep that going."
White is confident she will be fit for the final after fracturing and dislocating her cheekbone in the quarter-final win over hosts Finland. "Our quarter-final against Finland seems so long ago," she said. "Since then I have flown back to London to have an operation on, then rushed back on Saturday to be part of the squad in time for the semi-final and to witness the jubilant scenes after the girls qualified for the final."
White believes the team's best is yet to come. "I still don't think we have hit top form and there would be no better time to peak than tomorrow," she added. * PA Sport
