Wednesday cover: Luis Suarez powers late escape for Lionel Messi-less Barcelona

The National's Sport cover for the Wednesday, September 30 issue, featuring Luis Suarez as he saved Barcelona from a draw with Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

It was the second win in as many post-Lionel-Messi-injury matches for Barca, and cost them Andres Iniesta as well, but offered at least a moment of relief for fans, writes Andy Mitten:

“Barca looked to be heading for defeat until Sergi Roberto finally broke the Germans’ resistance. Suarez swept Jordi Alba’s cross towards goal and goalkeeper Bernd Leno could only palm it into the path of the Barca substitute. Camp Nou exploded in noise as the home team pushed for a winner.

“It came with two minutes when another substitute, Munir El Haddadi, weaved into the box and passed back to Suarez, who curled a shot into the top corner. Camp Nou celebrated once again and finally began to enjoy the night, with fans singing for their absent hero Messi.”
