Wednesday cover: Gyan and Al Ain reach Asian Champions League semi-finals

The National’s Sport cover for Wednesday, August 27, featuring Al Ain’s successful bid to reach the last four at the Asian Champions League on Tuesday night.

Saudi challengers Al Ittihad closed the gap, which stood at 2-0 following the first leg in the UAE, to 2-1 after a half hour in Mecca. But, 'just when the alarm bells began to sound, up stepped Al Ain's Mr Dependable,' writes John McAuley.

Asamoah Gyan’s goal to put Al Ain ahead 3-1 on aggregate, five minutes later, calmed nerves and paved the way for a 3-1 end result, leaving them 5-1 winners on aggregate to advance to Asia’s final four. Next up will be another Saudi side, Al Hilal.
