Corrie van Zyl will continue as South Africa's coach until April 2011, Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed yesterday.
Van Zyl recently led the Proteas to a 1-1 draw in their Test series in India after being appointed on an interim basis following Mickey Arthur's resignation last month.
The 48-year-old will remain in charge until after the Cricket World Cup, which is due to take place on the subcontinent in February and March next year.
Graeme Smith will continue to captain South Africa for the same period while Jacques Kallis, the all-rounder, was appointed as the team's vice-captain in all forms of the game.
Meanwhile, Lalit Modi, the Champions League commissioner, has said no decision had yet been taken on where this year's event would take place, despite CSA last week claiming they had "accepted an invitation" to host the tournament.
CSA said on their official website that they would host the event, which features domestic Twenty20 competition winners from across the world, adding that it was "their turn" to stage the event.
They have since taken the statement down and Modi said yesterday that the announcement was premature, although he refused to ruled out the possibility of them being hosts.
"It is absolutely not true yet, but they are a hot contender," he said.
"I am the chairman of the Champions League and what we have done is request a few of the boards to let us know if they are ready to host the Champions League.
"The Champions League has been conceived to be a travelling tournament, we have also spoken to Australia, the English cricket board and the India cricket board to affirm whether they are ready. I think what happened is the [South African] board approved that they would like to host it and South Africa definitely is in hot contention for that without doubt.
"The final decision is still to be made by the Champions League board."
Modi said that the composition of the next tournament had also still to be decided upon.

What are the guidelines?

It's up to you to go green
Nils El Accad, chief executive and owner of Organic Foods and Café, says going green is about “lifestyle and attitude” rather than a “money change”; people need to plan ahead to fill water bottles in advance and take their own bags to the supermarket, he says.
“People always want someone else to do the work; it doesn’t work like that,” he adds. “The first step: you have to consciously make that decision and change.”
When he gets a takeaway, says Mr El Accad, he takes his own glass jars instead of accepting disposable aluminium containers, paper napkins and plastic tubs, cutlery and bags from restaurants.
He also plants his own crops and herbs at home and at the Sheikh Zayed store, from basil and rosemary to beans, squashes and papayas. “If you’re going to water anything, better it be tomatoes and cucumbers, something edible, than grass,” he says.
“All this throwaway plastic - cups, bottles, forks - has to go first,” says Mr El Accad, who has banned all disposable straws, whether plastic or even paper, from the café chain.
One of the latest changes he has implemented at his stores is to offer refills of liquid laundry detergent, to save plastic. The two brands Organic Foods stocks, Organic Larder and Sonnett, are both “triple-certified - you could eat the product”.
The Organic Larder detergent will soon be delivered in 200-litre metal oil drums before being decanted into 20-litre containers in-store.
Customers can refill their bottles at least 30 times before they start to degrade, he says. Organic Larder costs Dh35.75 for one litre and Dh62 for 2.75 litres and refills will cost 15 to 20 per cent less, Mr El Accad says.
But while there are savings to be had, going green tends to come with upfront costs and extra work and planning. Are we ready to refill bottles rather than throw them away? “You have to change,” says Mr El Accad. “I can only make it available.”

Who are the Sacklers?
The Sackler family is a transatlantic dynasty that owns Purdue Pharma, which manufactures and markets OxyContin, one of the drugs at the centre of America's opioids crisis. The family is well known for their generous philanthropy towards the world's top cultural institutions, including Guggenheim Museum, the National Portrait Gallery, Tate in Britain, Yale University and the Serpentine Gallery, to name a few. Two branches of the family control Purdue Pharma.
Isaac Sackler and Sophie Greenberg were Jewish immigrants who arrived in New York before the First World War. They had three sons. The first, Arthur, died before OxyContin was invented. The second, Mortimer, who died aged 93 in 2010, was a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma. The third, Raymond, died aged 97 in 2017 and was also a former chief executive of Purdue Pharma.
It was Arthur, a psychiatrist and pharmaceutical marketeer, who started the family business dynasty. He and his brothers bought a small company called Purdue Frederick; among their first products were laxatives and prescription earwax remover.
Arthur's branch of the family has not been involved in Purdue for many years and his daughter, Elizabeth, has spoken out against it, saying the company's role in America's drugs crisis is "morally abhorrent".
The lawsuits that were brought by the attorneys general of New York and Massachussetts named eight Sacklers. This includes Kathe, Mortimer, Richard, Jonathan and Ilene Sackler Lefcourt, who are all the children of either Mortimer or Raymond. Then there's Theresa Sackler, who is Mortimer senior's widow; Beverly, Raymond's widow; and David Sackler, Raymond's grandson.
Members of the Sackler family are rarely seen in public.
