UAE suffer batting collapse in heavy ICC Intercontinental Cup defeat to Hong Kong

A half-century knock by Laxman Sreekumar proved the only bright spot in the UAE’s second innings as Hong Kong secured a 276-run win in their ICC Intercontinental Cup contest in Dubai.

Having set the UAE an unlikely 382 for victory, Hong Kong made light work of the hosts’ response, taking all 10 wickets in a single session. Nadeem Ahmed and Haseeb Amjad claimed four wickets apiece, with Aizaz Khan with the other two.

The UAE found themselves in trouble immediately after Hong Kong ripped through the top order to leave the hosts five wickets down for the accumulation of just six runs.

Sreekumar and Qais Farooq steadied the ship somewhat, putting on a 65-run stand for the sixth wicket, but the UAE’s resistance ended when Farooq became Ahmed’s first victim before the left-arm spinner mopped up the tail, claiming the next three wickets. Amjad then completed the victory by ending the stubborn stand of Sreekumar in the 29th over of the innings.

The result keeps the UAE at the bottom of the ICC Intercontinental Cup table following their opening defeat to Ireland in June.
