Day 1 of the Australian Open is the lead story in The National Sport front page on Tuesday, January 19 as the 'Big Guns' progressed to the second round.
World No 1 and reigning champion Novak Djokovic and four-time winner Roger Federer both advanced with ease on the men’s side, while Serena Williams, the world No 1 and six-time champion, and Maria Sharapova, the 2008 champion, both booked their places in the next round on the women’s side.
Despite a day full of on-court action, the headlines were occupied by revelations of match-fixing, with reports claiming players in the ATP top 50 have been found to be throwing matches.
Indeed, Djokovic revealed how a member of his team had been approached and offered money for the Serbian to throw a match.
