Transfer talk: Leicester City set to land Ahmed Musa from CSKA Moscow; Watford lose Jurado

Nigerian striker Ahmed Musa is set to complete a move to Premier League champions Leicester City from Russian club CSKA Moscow subject to a medical, according to the player's agent.

The 23-year-old, who scored 13 league goals in 29 league appearances last season as the club won the Russian title, was linked by British media to Leicester City in January and had also attracted interest from Southampton and West Ham United.

The fee for the Nigerian international is in the region of 16 million pounds (Dh 78 million, $21.20 million) according to British media reports, which would be a club record.

“Everything has been finalised and Musa will be in England for his medical on Wednesday,” the player’s agent Tony Harris told BBC Sport.

CSKA Moscow coach Leonid Slutsky was also optimistic that Musa would flourish in England.

“He’ll be leaving on Tuesday,” Slutsky told Russian media. “If you look at the way things are done over there, you’ll see he is a player just made for English football.”

Leicester City also announced the signing of midfielder Nampalys Mendy from Nice on Sunday.

Schalke’s Neustaeder signs for Fenerbahce

Fenerbahce have signed Schalke 04’s Russian defender Roman Neustaedter, the Turkish club announced Tuesday, a day after it sealed the deal with former Paris Saint Germain full-back Gregory van der Wiel.

Fresh from playing for Russia at Euro 2016, Neustaedter was due to arrive in Istanbul late Tuesday before officially joining Fenerbahce on Wednesday, the team said on its website.

The 28-year-old midfielder spent four seasons with Bundesliga side Schalke.

He hinted at his hopes in a tweet last week, posting emoji of two praying hands and a Turkish flag.

Poland defender Glik joins Monaco on four-year deal

French side AS Monaco have signed Polish defender Kamil Glik on a four-year deal from Italian team Torino, the clubs confirmed on Monday.

The 28-year-old joined Torino in 2011 and was made captain of the side two years later. Last season, he made 33 appearances in the Serie A as the club finished 12th in the standings.

Capped 46 times, Glik started in all five games of Poland’s 2016 European Championship campaign in France, playing a key role in helping the Poles to a first quarter-finals appearance in the tournament, where they lost to Portugal on penalties.

“His power, his charisma and his defensive attitudes, which he once again demonstrated during Euro 2016, will be a great addition to the team,” Monaco vice president Vadim Vasilyev said on the club’s official website (www.asmonaco.com).

Watford’s Jurado leaves England for Spain

Attacking midfielder Jose Manuel Jurado has left English Premier League side Watford for Spain's Espanyol, where he will reunite with former manager Quique Sanchez Flores.

The 30-year-old Jurado, who joined Watford from Spartak Moscow in July 2015, has signed a three-year contract with the La Liga club, Espanyol said on their website.

Jurado came through the ranks at Real Madrid but signed for local rivals Atletico Madrid in Aug. 2006. He spent three seasons at Atletico and one on loan at Real Mallorca, winning the 2009-10 edition of the Europa League with the former.

The midfielder’s time at Atletico ended in Aug. 2010, when he moved to German side Schalke 04 on a two-year contract.

Jurado won the German Cup and Super Cup with Schalke in the 2010-11 season before moving to Moscow, where he spent three seasons before heading to England.

Sanchez Flores was sacked by Watford in May, despite guiding the club to a 13th-place finish in the Premier League and the semi-finals of the FA Cup.

The Spaniard, who was named coach of Espanyol last month, was replaced by former Inter Milan coach Walter Mazzarri by the English club.

TEACHERS' PAY - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Pay varies significantly depending on the school, its rating and the curriculum. Here's a rough guide as of January 2021:

- top end schools tend to pay Dh16,000-17,000 a month - plus a monthly housing allowance of up to Dh6,000. These tend to be British curriculum schools rated 'outstanding' or 'very good', followed by American schools

- average salary across curriculums and skill levels is about Dh10,000, recruiters say

- it is becoming more common for schools to provide accommodation, sometimes in an apartment block with other teachers, rather than hand teachers a cash housing allowance

- some strong performing schools have cut back on salaries since the pandemic began, sometimes offering Dh16,000 including the housing allowance, which reflects the slump in rental costs, and sheer demand for jobs

- maths and science teachers are most in demand and some schools will pay up to Dh3,000 more than other teachers in recognition of their technical skills

- at the other end of the market, teachers in some Indian schools, where fees are lower and competition among applicants is intense, can be paid as low as Dh3,000 per month

- in Indian schools, it has also become common for teachers to share residential accommodation, living in a block with colleagues
