Transfer talk: Adebayor will play waiting game for Real Madrid move

Emmanuel Adebayor, the Manchester City striker, is willing to wait to find out if he can secure a permanent move to Real Madrid this summer.

Manchester United

Full-back Patrice Evra is confident that new goalkeeper David de Gea can fulfil his potential at Old Trafford and become a regular between the posts.

But he warned the Spaniard will have his work cut out to live up to the reputation of Edwin van der Sar, his predecessor.

"David is a good goalkeeper," Evra told Sky Sports. "We don't know him yet, but we'll give him a nice welcome. It's never easy to replace a big keeper like Van der Sar, and I'm a little bit sad that Edwin has retired, but De Gea is the future now. He has to work hard because it's not easy to do the job Edwin did."

Arsenal

Arsene Wenger, the Arsenal manager, says it will be weeks before the transfer market heats up as no team wants to make the first move when it comes to big-name signings. Arsenal endured another trophyless campaign late season, but Wenger insists he will not rush into the market.

"Currently, everyone is standing still," Wenger told a French radio station. "Everyone expects everyone else to make the first move. Everyone holds on to their cards, hoping for the major transfer. Nobody blinks until late July, early August."

Wenger also said he will do "everything" to keep midfielder Samir Nasri at the club. Reports claimed Nasri had rejected a new contract offer, but Wenger said: "We will do everything to keep Nasri at the club. My wish is that he stays here."

Liverpool

Steven Gerrard, the captain, is recovering well from groin surgery, according to Kenny Dalglish, his manager. Gerrard has been out of action since March but Dalglish hopes he will be fit for action by the start of the new season.

He told the club's official website: "We start back Monday so we'll see how everybody is then. Everything that has been done has been very positive for Steven so we are just hoping for the best for him. He deserves a bit of luck on the injury front. "

Stoke City

Ryan Shawcross insists he is happy at Stoke and has no plans to move on to a new club.

The centre-half put in a number of impressive performances last season, and Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur are reported to be interested in signing the 23 year old.

However, Shawcross tole the Stoke Sentinel: "I suppose if you are linked with clubs it shows you are doing well. But I am a Stoke player, I have signed a contract here and I am happy here.

"The chairman has said that the club aren't going to sell me. I don't want to leave and I am looking forward to the new season. Any young player in the Premier League is going to have speculation written about him, but it doesn't bother me."

Manchester City

Emmanuel Adebayor is willing to wait to find out if he can secure a permanent move to Real Madrid this summer.

Adebayor joined Real on loan from City in January and has made no secret of his desire to become a permanent part of Jose Mourinho's squad.

No deal has yet been forthcoming, with Real heavily linked with South American strikers Sergio Aguero and Neymar, but Adebayor is happy to bide his time if it means he can seal a move to the Bernabeu.

He told Marca: "We have to wait. I have made it clear that I want to play for Madrid and I will wait until the last day. I'm not going to sign for any team until August 31. I will wait for them until the last day at 11 at night. If then Madrid have decided not to buy me, I will search for another team."
