Wests Tigers came from 18 points down to beat Canberra Raiders 35-22 to move up to third in the NRL yesterday.
The Raiders led 22-4 before tries from Benji Marshall, Robbie Farah, the captain, and Chris Lawrence levelled the scores. Farah's drop goal thereafter put them in front for the first time with eight minutes remaining. Liam Fulton and Beau Ryan capped the amazing fightback with late tries. "You can say maybe we didn't deserve to win based on our first half, but on our second half we did," said Tim Sheens, the Tigers coach.
"We had our hands around their throat and all of a sudden, somehow, they got out of it," said Alan Tongue, the Canberra captain.
Elsewhere, Manly Sea Eagles proved too clinical for New Zealand Warriors winning 14-6 in Auckland. The Warriors could not repeat the form that flattened the Broncos in Brisbane last weekend and looked tired and in going down to the Sea Eagles.
Manly moved to seventh place, just one place behind the Warriors in the standings, after four rounds.
In rugby union, London Wasps were 33-22 victors over London Irish in the Guinness Premiership yesterday. Tries from Tom Varndell, Dan Ward-Smith and Dominic Waldouck sealed the win.
Wasps climbed above the Irish to move into fourth place with the bonus-point victory.

Stat of the day – 33 It took 33 balls for Dilruwan Perera to get off the mark. His time on zero was eventful enough. The Sri Lankan No 7 was given out LBW twice, but managed to have both decisions overturned on review. The TV replays showed both times that he had inside edged the ball onto his pad.

Gender pay parity on track in the UAE
The UAE has a good record on gender pay parity, according to Mercer's Total Remuneration Study.
"In some of the lower levels of jobs women tend to be paid more than men, primarily because men are employed in blue collar jobs and women tend to be employed in white collar jobs which pay better," said Ted Raffoul, career products leader, Mena at Mercer. "I am yet to see a company in the UAE – particularly when you are looking at a blue chip multinationals or some of the bigger local companies – that actively discriminates when it comes to gender on pay."
Mr Raffoul said most gender issues are actually due to the cultural class, as the population is dominated by Asian and Arab cultures where men are generally expected to work and earn whereas women are meant to start a family.
"For that reason, we see a different gender gap. There are less women in senior roles because women tend to focus less on this but that’s not due to any companies having a policy penalising women for any reasons – it’s a cultural thing," he said.
As a result, Mr Raffoul said many companies in the UAE are coming up with benefit package programmes to help working mothers and the career development of women in general.
