Long warned by some that he should perhaps slow down and take his game a bit easier to ensure longevity, Rafael Nadal instead insists to be his full-throttle self, as he told The National's Ahmed Rizvi on Saturday.

"I play my way," said Nadal after his 6-4, 7-6 win over David Goffin for his fourth Mubadala World Tennis Championship title. "Sport, for me, is all about passion.

“If you don’t try your best, then the sport loses its significance, loses its real values.”

That passion proved positive this weekend for Nadal, who takes the first cover of 2017 for The National's Sport section.
