Wayne Rooney adorns The National Sport front page on Sunday, January 3 after his flick finish earned Manchester United a first win in nine games against Swansea City.
With the score at 1-1 following Anthony Martial’s opener and an equaliser from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Rooney scored the winner with delightful first-time finish into the top-corner.
The victory was a much-needed boost for United manager Louis van Gaal, who has seen the pressure on his job security increase as his team’s winless run continued.
Rooney’s finish also earned the striker his 188th Premier League goal, making him the second highest scorer in the league’s history behind Alan Shearer, and second in United’s all-time list behind Bobby Charlton.
