ABU DHABI // The Al Jazira striker Rafael Sobis has his sights set on Al Wasl rather than trying to impress any European suitors in the prestigious friendly against Bayern Munich at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium on Saturday. The league leaders are gunning for all the silverware available to them, with the carrot of a place in the Fifa Club World Cup at their home stadium on offer to the winners of the first UAE Pro League championship.
And Sobis, 23, is aiming for double when the Abu Dhabi club host their Dubai counterparts on Wednesday evening in the Etisalat Cup (ko 8pm). Sobis won an Olympic bronze medal last summer when he represented Brazil in Beijing and then immediately joined Jazira for a record Dh37million from the Spanish club Real Betis. But he said he is loving life in the capital and has no regrets about his move. "I just want to win everything that I possibly can while I am with Al Jazira," he said.
"It is a great club and I am enjoying life here in Abu Dhabi. "I can't really think too much about the Bayern Munich match just yet because all our attention and focus is on the cup match with Al Wasl. "They are a very strong team and pose a lot of threat and danger. "If we can beat them, then that will show how far we have come this season. "It's a big match and I want to win everything I can with Al Jazira - and that includes the league and cup."
After the Etisalat Cup clash, Al Jazira face the German champions Bayern Munich on Saturday (ko 5.05pm). They are hoping for a big crowd at the city centre venue for the match. Tickets are priced from Dh50 and are available from the Al Jazira Club and 1Box Office Company. All proceeds will be donated to the Emirates Foundation. mwalker@thenational.ae
