Semi-final draw set for BWF Destination Dubai badminton finals

India’s Saina Nehwal continued her winning run and maintained her clean slate to secure the top spot in women’s singles Group A at the BWF Destination Dubai World Superseries badminton finals at Dubai on Friday.

After being a game down against Bae Yeon Ju, Nehwal came back to take the next two games and eliminate Bae Yeon Ju. Nehwal will now meet Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei on Saturday.

In other action, Japan’s Akane Yamaguchi topped Group B and will face Sung Ji Hyun of Korea.

Jan O Jorgensen overcame India’s Kidambi Srikanth to top the men’s singles Group B on points difference. Srikanth finished second and Japan’s Kento Momota third. Srikanth will now face China’s Chen Long in the semi-finals, while Jorgensen will face his countryman Hans-Kristian Vittinghus.

In men’s doubles Group A, China’s Chai Biao/Hong Wei won the playoff for the semi-finals, and will meet Japan’s Hiroyuki Endo and Kenichi Hayakawa. The other semi-final will be between Denmark’s Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen and Korea’s pair of Lee Yong Dae/Yoo Yeon Seong.

In the women’s doubles, Japan’s Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi have drawn China’s identical twins, Luo Ying/ Luo Yu, in the first semi-final. China’s Tian Qing/Zhao Yunlei will meet Jung Kyung Eun/Kim Ha Na of Korea in the second semi-final.

In mixed doubles, the English pair of Chris and Gabby Adcock kept themselves in the running with a win over Michael Fuchs and Birgit Michels of Germany. The Adcocks will face Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei again on Saturday in the semi-finals. Denmark’s Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen will meet China’s pair Liu Cheng/ Bao Yixin in the second semi-final.
